Top corporate banker becomes Gambit partner

Jason Evans, Regional Director for Lloyds Bank Mid Markets is joining Gambit as a Partner in July 2017.  Whilst at Lloyds he has been responsible for the Bank’s corporate business across South West & South Wales.  Prior to joining Lloyds Bank in 2006, Jason held a number of senior corporate and leveraged finance roles, including Head of Leveraged Finance for HSBC. He started his career with Coopers & Lybrand Deloitte.

Frank Holmes, Gambit Partner commented:

“The funding market for mid-market organisations, public sector and education bodies has fundamentally changed and remains turbulent.  Interest rates remain very low and whilst there has been the emergence of non-bank alternative funders and a high degree of liquidity in the market, increased regulatory requirements and cost down challenges are resulting in a focus on returns and a different approach to terms and debt covenants.

It’s important to fully understand the range of options available, not simply the highest amount of debt at the keenest price.  It’s about achieving the optimal and sustainable funding structure to meet a company or public sector and education institutions’ ambitions and requirements.  The team do this day in day out, having been involved as both advisors and now as lenders.  Our partner-led approach has relationships with the most active funders in the mid-market and we intend to add this service to our growing portfolio including Succession Planning and Value Maximisation Reviews.

Geraint Rowe, Partner said “We are delighted to welcome Jason to the Gambit Partnership where his focus will include M+A transactions, refinancing maturing debt facilities, debt capacity analysis, working capital reviews and optimisation, bringing in depth understanding of credit committee process and bank documentation and project managing and executing the fundraising from planning to completion. There are very few firms that have a debt advisory capability of this nature”

Other areas of debt advisory support will include sourcing performance bonds, currency hedging and trade finance to help clients fund and protect their growing businesses.

“Jason has an enviable reputation and he’s been externally recognised at a number of “Insider Deal Awards”, including being the only person to win “Corporate Banker of the Year” at two different banks. He brings a unique mix of experience from the accounting, banking and consultancy sphere. His entrepreneurial approach fits very well with the firm’s culture.” said Rowe.

Frank Holmes commented “This is an exciting strategic step up for the firm which this year celebrates 25 years in lead advisory corporate finance services. and is looking forward many more ahead.”
