A health, safety and environmental training company has launched in Cardiff.
Astutis provides health, safety and environmental training to businesses across the UK.
Three of the directors have a combined experience of 50 years delivering health, safety and environmental training with locally based CHSS, one of the world’s top providers of health and safety solutions.
Chairman David Lea, a former electronics lecturer at the University of Glamorgan, launched the spin-out venture which became UGCS (University of Glamorgan Commercial Services) and then CHSS (Corporate Health and Safety Solutions).
CHSS was bought out by Caerphilly company, National Britannia in August 2007, with National Britannia being purchased by Connaught in September 2007.
The managing director of the new company is Steve Terry, originally from Llandeilo in West Wales now living in Creigiau near Cardiff and operations director is Brenig Moore who lives in Caerphilly.
The background of the team is all important to the success of the new company, Steve Terry said,
“When you’re looking for training in a field such as health, safety and environmental, you want to know that your trainers are experienced and knowledgeable in their field. With a Masters in Education and an Examiner on the NEBOSH courses Brenig leads our training team and instils confidence in students.
“For us as a company, it’s superb to have a business mind like David Lea on board; David has done this before and created the UK’s leading provider of accredited HSE training, so we wanted to tap into that expertise. He had recently retired from his previous company and so we asked if he would be interested in getting involved; it didn’t take much persuasion.
“Now we’re looking forward to providing our range of courses to businesses all over Britain from our UK training centres which are based at Heathrow, Leeds, and Warrington and locally in Newport”.
Gambit advised on the management buy-out of CHSS from UGCS in 2002. It then advised on the sale of CHSS to National Brittania in 2007.
Gambit has also invested in Astutis and Geraint Rowe has been appointed a Non-Executive Director.
